SNACC, GTZ review Yemen vision to adopt legislation to UNCAC
SANA'A May 27 (Saba) - The Supreme National Anti-Corruption
Commission SNAAC and the GTZ have reviewed Yemen's vision to adapt
Yemeni anti-corruption legislation to the United Nations Convention
against Corruption UNCAC.
The vision focuses on establishing effective cooperation between the
SNAAC and the authorities concerned about combating corruption in
the country.
It also concerns with the setting up of a national expert team to
review national codes on the fight against corruption within a
maximum of 6-8 months.
During the review, a GTZ expert in the UNCAC said adapting Yemeni
anti-corruption legislation to the UNCAC will help identify Yemen's
needs to uproot corruption and be reflected on Yemen's efforts to
improve the investment climate.
Under the proposed vision, Yemen should learn from the Indonesian
experiences in fighting corruption.
Yemen is exerting major efforts to uproot corruption which reports
said is prevailing at most of the governmental institutions.
It set up the SNAAC, the Supreme National Tender Committee and it
also approved the national reform agenda. Yemen also joined the
Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).
Under the joining, Yemen has to streamline its anti-corruption
legislation. Yemen ratified the UNCAC in 2005.
