Speaker stresses Bahraini press patriotism, professionalism

Manama, May 6 (BNA): Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal, said that the wide-ranging freedom of opinion and expression enjoyed by the press and media outlets in the kingdom reflects the democratic approach and ongoing reform in the kingdom thanks to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s visions and directives. In a statement marking the Bahrain Press Day, observed every May 7 in the kingdom, the speaker praised the patriotic and responsible role played by the press in Bahrain, noting that it is the cornerstone of the comprehensive development process, in light of HM the King’s unlimited support and interest of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Speaker Zainal highlighted the enlightening and positive role played by journalism in Bahrain, citing its commitment to assuming its national responsibilities during the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. She underlined the success of the local press in highlighting the national goals during the pandemic, through raising awareness on the importance of sustainable development projects, which motivated all social segments to contribute effectively to building the nation, contributing to raising growth rates and mitigating COVID-19 effects. She valued highly the professionalism and responsible freedom of the Bahraini press, as reflected in its constant keenness to obtain information from credible sources, calling on everyone to cooperate in supporting the press and journalists so as to enable them to cope with the ongoing digital and technological developments the world is witnessing. Speaker Zainal extended congratulations to the local press and the Bahrain Journalists’ Association on the occasion, recalling with pride the contributions of the pioneers of journalists and media personnel in the kingdom, commending the distinguished efforts exerted by the affiliates of the Information Affairs Ministry and the local press to enhance press and media work in the kingdom.
