Vietnamese PM arrives in Seoul for S. Korea-ASEAM summit
SEOUL, May 28 (Yonhap) -- Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung arrived in
Seoul on Thursday to take part in a special summit between South Korea and the
10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Nguyen's visit marked the start of arrivals by ASEAN leaders for the two-day
summit to be held on the island of Jeju from Monday, in which South Korea and
ASEAN will mark their 20th year of diplomatic relations and discuss ways to
further strengthen their ties and boost cooperation
The Vietnamese leader is scheduled to meet South Korean President Lee Myung-bak
and Prime Minister Han Seung-soo on Saturday to discuss topics of mutual concern.
About 90 Vietnamese business leaders accompanied Dung to attend a gathering of
businesspeople from South Korea and ASEAN, which will be held on the sidelines of
the special summit.
The ASEAN member countries are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia,
Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam.
Also attending the summit will be Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Cambodian
Prime Minister Hun Sen, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Laotian
Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak,
ASEAN Secretary General Surin Pitsuwan, Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva,
Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Philippine President Gloria
Macapagal-Arroyo and Myanmar Prime Minister Thein Sein.
