Supreme Council for Women holds webinar with IMF Consultative Mission

Manama, May19 (BNA): The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) held a webinar with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Consultative Mission, led by Asma’a Al Janaini, Deputy Chief Executive for the Middle East and Central Asia. SCW Assistant Secretary-General Shaikha Deena bint Rashid Al Khalifa outlined Bahrain’s gender balance model which contributed to enhancing Bahraini women’s participation and bridging the gaps through supportive strategies, policies, programs and initiatives. “The national model for gender balance has enabled Bahrain to develop a unified system, which includes measuring local, regional and international competitiveness rates, and supports national decisions for future policies and initiatives”, she said. She gave an overview about the national legislations that support women’s empowerment and advancement, stressing Bahrain’s streides to promote gender balance and equal opportunities and tackling any discrimination which may impede women’s employment. She underlined the council’s keenness on furthering cooperation with the International Monetary Fund within the IMF framework aimed to reduce gender imbalance and to develop policies to ensure the protection of women’s rights and increase their representation in various fields. The IMF Consultative Mission commended Bahrain’s dedicated efforts to develop laws and legislations in order to support women’s economic participation. It praised the council’s pivotal role, led by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and SCW President.
