Seoul stocks start lower on security concerns
SEOUL, May 29 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a weak start Friday as
investors were spooked by geopolitical risks, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Price Index (KOSPI) shed 3.98 points, or 0.29
percent, to 1,388.19 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Inter-Korean tensions intensified as South Korea put its military forces on high
alert after North Korea unilaterally nullified the truce ending the Korean War in
1953 following its nuclear test on Monday.
The local currency was trading at 1,262.25 won against the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., down 5.35 won from Thursday's close.
