AZERI EMBASSY IN JAKARTA MARKS 28 MAY - REPUBLIC DAY

Baku, May 29 (AzerTAc). The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Indonesia has organized an official reception to celebrate 28 May - Republic Day.
The event was attended by Indonesian top officials, parliamentarians, heads of political parties, scientists, members of the Azerbaijani community, journalists and others.
Azerbaijani ambassador to Indonesia Ibrahim Hajiyev briefed the participants on the history of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic existed in 1918-1920.
He said ADR was the first democratic and secular state in the Muslim East.
The diplomat also touched upon the accomplishments in his country in 2008.
According to him, Ilham Aliyev`s re-election as president of Azerbaijan was the most important political event in 2008.
He spoke of ongoing democratic reforms, economic development and oil strategy in the country, as well as Azerbaijan-Indonesia relationship.
On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Hajiyev said the Azerbaijani leadership makes every effort to settle the dispute peacefully.
He underlined that Armenia must honor relevant documents adopted by the United Nations Security Council and General Assembly, OSCE, OIC and other international organizations.
The ambassador also thanked Indonesia for backing Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Indonesian State Minister for Women`s Empowerment Meutia Farida Hatta congratulated the Azerbaijani people on the occasion of the holiday.

The Indonesia-based Jakarta Post newspaper has published an article entitled “Azerbaijan-RI trade soars to $1.41b” on the basis of the interview by Ambassador Ibrahim Hajiyev.
In the article, the ambassador replied to questions on prospects for cooperation between the two countries.
He said “Indonesia`s plan to open its embassy in Azerbaijan will be realized soon to give additional push to bilateral relations”.
The diplomat thanked Indonesia for supporting Azerbaijan`s stance on settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
