Kumho Asiana chief, Vietnamese PM agree on continued ties
SEOUL, May 31 (Yonhap) -- Kumho Asiana Group said Sunday its chairman has pledged
continued investment in Vietnam in a meeting with the Southeast Asian nation's
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
Park Sam-koo, chairman of Kumho Asiana, promised continued investment and other
contributions to the welfare of Vietnam in a meeting Saturday with the Vietnamese
prime minister, who is visiting South Korea to attend a summit. The special
summit between South Korea and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)
is to be held on the southern resort island of Jeju from June 1-2.
Chairman Park also shared opinions with the prime minister on boosting economic
ties and exchanges between the two nations, the group said.
Kumho Asiana, the nation's eighth-largest industrial group, has been closely
associated with Vietnam since the parent company of Asiana Airlines Inc. opened
the first flight to Ho Chi Minh City in 1993, followed by Hanoi in 2003. The
conglomerate's construction units, Kumho Engineering & Construction Co. and
Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., also have stakes in some development
projects in the Southeast Asian country.
