Artists, multicultural families from Southeast Asia invited for cultural exchanges
JEJU ISLAND, South Korea, May 31 (Yonhap) -- Artists and multicultural families
from South Korea and Southeast Asian countries will meet here as part of efforts
to expand cultural exchanges during summit talks to be held between their leaders
this week, the South Korean culture minister said Sunday.
The event will start Sunday for a three-day run on the sidelines of the
ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit marking the 20th anniversary of
dialogue partnership between the two regions, according to the Ministry of
Culture, Sports and Tourism. The summit will run through Tuesday.
The gathering will be held at the ShineVille Resort to "promote understanding of
Korea among spouses from the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian
Nations (ASEAN) and foster friendship and goodwill between their peoples," it
added.
Invited to the program from ASEAN countries are 10 leading poets, seven
film-making officials, eight museum directors and curators and the multicultural
families, the ministry said.
A variety of events has been prepared for participants, including a meeting of
poets, a roundtable discussion on art, and a seminar and movie screenings aimed
at bolstering exchanges in the film industry.
"All these cultural activities are expected to help give concrete shape to the
vision of 'Partnership for Real, Friendship for Good,' the core message of the
special summit," the ministry said in a statement.
