S. Korean export drop to abate in June: finance minister

JEJU ISLAND, South Korea, June 1 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's export downturn is
expected to ease in June as markets for overseas shipments are well diversified,
the top economic policymaker said Monday.

"The decline in June exports is likely to abate," Finance Minister Yoon
Jeung-hyun told reporters after attending a forum held here on the sidelines of
the South Korea-ASEAN special summit talks.
"South Korean companies' export markets are well diversified and they are
withstanding relatively better than other nations that are undergoing more than
40 percent contraction in overseas shipments."
His remarks come after the government announced earlier that its exports plunged
28.3 percent in May from a year earlier following a 19.6 percent fall in April.
