KEPCO unit to build power plant in Philippines
SEOUL, June 1 (Yonhap) -- Korea Midland Power Co., a unit of South Korea's
state-run power monopoly Korea Electric Power Corp., said Monday it will sign a
preliminary contract to build a hydro-electric power plant in the Philippines.
The deal, to be signed with a Philippine state energy company on Tuesday, calls
for the construction of a 60-megawatt plant in Benguet in the northern part of
the Philippines, Korea Midland Power said.
It will take 30 months to complete the plant and cost about US$120 million, the
company said, adding it will operate the plant for 30 years after completion.
In order to build the plant, Korea Midland Power said it has formed a consortium
with two other South Korean companies, Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Co.
and Iljin Electronic Co.
