(LEAD) One South Korean aboard missing Air France jet: ministry
(ATTN: UPDATES with details; MODIFIES headline)
By Lee Chi-dong
SEOUL, June 2 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean man was found to have been aboard an Air
France passenger jet that disappeared over the Atlantic Ocean earlier this week,
Seoul's foreign ministry said Tuesday.
"It has been confirmed that the 40-year-old man with the name of Ku Hak-rim was
aboard the plane," a ministry official told reporters.
Ku, head of the Vietnamese branch of a Seoul-based shipping company, was on a
business trip, he added.
Air France Flight 447 was carrying 228 passengers when it vanished on Sunday
night (local time) after leaving Rio de Janeiro for Paris. The fate of all the
passengers and crew remains unknown as authorities are still trying to locate
the plane.
The airliner initially mistook Ku for a Vietnamese or a Lebanese due to his
address and name, according to the official.
At the request of his family and company, however, South Korean foreign ministry
officials tracked down his flight number and confirmed that he was in fact on the
now disappeared plane.
