Undersecretary for Municipalities Affairs receives UN officials

Manama, Sept. 2 (BNA): Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry Undersecretary Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa received United Nations Resident Coordinator in Bahrain Khaled Elmekwad Bahrain-based UN Habitat Head of Country Programme Dr. Fernanda Lonardoni and discussed joint cooperation. The Undersecretary commended the efforts of the UN organizations in Bahrain by working with national partners from the public and private sectors, as well as civil society, under the roof of the strategic partnership framework to achieve the sustainable development goals, in line with national development priorities. He highlighted key ministry initiatives to expand afforestation projects, develop gardens, parks and coasts, and beautify intersections and streets. Elmekwad praised Bahrain’s development strides in the field of urban development, stressing UN keenness to continue cooperation with the ministry in various programs in order to achieve sustainable development goals.
