JuD chief's release shows insincerity of Pak Govt: experts
New Delhi, June 2 (PTI) The release of Jamaat-ud-Dawa
(JuD) chief Hafiz Mohammed Saeed on Tuesday shows the
insincere attitude of Pakistan government in handling terror
groups operating from its soil, security experts in India
feel.
Some of the experts also feel that his release may
embolden the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) cadre who may plan or be
ordered to carry out a terror strike on India.
"The release underlines that Pakistan government is not
fully on the same page with India as far as dismantling terror
infrastructure is concerned," former Director of Intelligence
Bureau Arun Bhagat said.
"After the release, Saeed will continue with his agenda.
As we all know the Jamaat-Ud-Dawa is the front face of
Lashkar, his release will embolden the LeT cadre operating in
India as well as Pakistan," Bhagat told PTI.
Another security expert Bharat Karnad fears that some
strikes might be orchestrated by Saeed to "make a mark" among
his followers.
But former Chief of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW)
Arvind K Verma differs on any immediate threat emanating from
LeT cadre.
"The possibility of threat from these terror groups
never receded. It does not matter whether he was in jail or
out. It is always in planning," Verma said.
"Pakistani establishment has been built on the foundation
of hatred towards India, to demolish India. The establishment
does not want people like Saeed to stop what they are doing,"
Verma said.
Another retired Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) official
B Raman also feels the same way. He said Saeed even during the
detention was in constant touch with his cadres as there was
no restriction in his meeting with his followers.
"The only condition was that he was not allowed to go
outside the premises," said Raman.
He said the threat has always remained there. "He is
getting all the support from the Pakistan government. The
entire episode of his detention and later release is a farce
enacted by the government there."
"Even when Saeed was in jail, he was exercising his full
control over JuD as well as LeT. There will be no reduction
of risk or augmentation of it. It will remain same," another
security expert Ajay Sahni said.
"It is unbelievable that the government failed to make a
case against Chief of JuD and LeT, which as per their own
definition are terror organisations," Sahni said.
Saeed was detained by Pakistan government after 26/11
Mumbai terror attack. Founder of Lashker-e-Toiba, Saeed is now
heading the organisation rechristened as Jamaat-ud-Dawa which
was banned by United Nations Security Council in December
