Seoul shares open higher on Wall Street gains
SEOUL, June 3 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started higher Wednesday as
investor sentiment was lifted by overnight gains in U.S. markets, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) climbed 12.55 points, or
0.89 percent, to 1,425.59 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. markets closed higher on Tuesday on hopes of an economic recovery. The Dow
Jones industrial average advanced 0.22 percent and the tech-laden Nasdaq
composite index gained 0.44 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,233.8 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m.,
up 5.4 won from Tuesday's close.
