INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE “HISTORICAL ISLAMIC CITIES AND MODERN ARCHITECTURE” COMMENCED IN BAKU

Baku, June 3 (AzerTAc). An International conference “Historical Islamic Cities and Modern architecture” commenced in Baku on Tuesday. The co-organizers of the event are Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Research Centre for Islamic History, Art, and Culture (IRCICA), as well as State Historic and Architectural Reserve Icheri Sheher (SDHARIS) and International Center for Cultural Heritage of Turk Nations.
The two-day conference brought together specialists and experts from Azerbaijan, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, UK and Lithuania.
IRCICA Director General Halit Eren, representative of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) Zeki Aslan, Azerbaijan`s Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfas Garayev and others delivered speeches during the conference. Abulfas Garayev said a number of international events will be held in Baku to promote development of the Islamic culture in 2009. The conference aimed to protect the architectural remnant and historical environment .
