By Lee Chi-dong
SEOUL, June 3 (Yonhap) -- South Korean Foreign Minister Yu Myung-whan was to
leave for the United States later Wednesday for talks with U.S. secretary of
state and the U.N. chief on dealing with North Korea's nuclear test and threats
of provocation.
Yu heads first to New York where he will meet U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, officials said. Turkey currently
holds the rotating chair of the U.N. Security Council, which is negotiating a
resolution to reprimand the communist nation's underground nuclear blast on May
25.
Yu will stay in New York for two days before heading to Washington.
In the U.S. capital, Yu plans to have talks with Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton on Friday. He will also meet Defense Secretary Robert Gates and National
Security Adviser James Jones, according to Yu's aides.
The minister will discuss agenda items for the South Korea-U.S. summit June 16,
they said.
Yu is scheduled to return to Seoul on Sunday.
