AZERI PARLIAMENT SPEAKER MEETS SYRIAN FOREIGN MINISTER
Baku, 3 June (AzerTAc). Speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament (Milli Majlis) Ogtay Asadov met Wednesday with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al Muallem.
Asadov told of the history of relationships between the two countries.
According to him, the two countries` leaders have a huge role in developing bilateral ties. Asadov stressed significance of the fact that the two countries` parliamentarians share the same position on important issues within international organizations.
Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, the Speaker said the dispute must only be resolved on the basis of principles of international law including territorial integrity and inviolability of borders.
Asadov expressed hope that Syria would increase its role to contribute to restoration of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.
Walid al Muallem extended greetings of Syrian Parliament`s speaker to Ogtay Asadov.
The Minister said the ongoing development in Baku made a deep impression on him.
According to the Minister, relations between Azerbaijan and Syria have profound historic roots.
Walid al Muallem also underlined the necessity of organizing reciprocal visits.
The sides also underlined the importance of using the existing opportunities to boost bilateral cooperation in energy, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres and discussed other issues of mutual concern.
