AL-JAZIRAH NEWSPAPER`S EDITOR-IN-CHIEF VISITS AZERTAC

Editor-in-Chief of Saudi Arabia-based Al-Jazirah newspaper, Khalid Al-Malik, visited Thursday the Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency (AzerTAc) where he met its Director General Aslan Aslanov.
Mr. Aslanov informed the Al-Jazirah`s Editor-in-Chief about the history of AzerTAc which was founded in 1920.
Aslan Aslanov spoke of Azerbaijan`s achievements during national leader Heydar Aliyev`s years in power.
He said the nationwide leader always paid great attention to AzerTAc.
Mr. Aslanov said “the nationwide leader`s policy is today successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev, and as a result Azerbaijan has become the regional leader.
“These achievements also contribute to developing AzerTAc, which, year after year, is expanding its international relations.”
“Today AzerTAc is a member of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) and its Executive Board and the European Alliance of News Agencies. Our agency is also one of the founding members of the Black Sea Association of National News Agencies and the Association of Turkish Speaking News Agencies (TKA), the organization whose general assembly has been chaired by AzerTAc since 2008. Last year we hosted meetings of TKA and OANA.
Khalid Al-Malik briefed Mr. Aslanov on Al-Jazirah which he described as “one of the leading newspapers in Saudi Arabia”. According to him, circulation of the newspaper is 180,000 copies per day.
He stressed the importance of information exchange in expanding relations between the two countries.
“I think that a news agency is a national news archive of a country. You have a great experience and you are developing rapidly. Saudi Arabia is aware of and closely follows this development”, Mr. Al-Malik said.
“Rapid development processes in Azerbaijan make an impression on every visitor.”
On the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, he said his country supports “fraternal Azerbaijan`s fair stance and will never step back from its position”.
Khalid Al-Malik pointed out visits by national leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev to Saudi Arabia contributed to boosting friendly relations between the two countries even more.
Aslan Aslanov said due to mutual efforts by the two countries` leaders bilateral ties would continue to develop.
Azerbaijan`s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Tofig Abdullayev, official of culture and tourism ministry Fikrat Babayev were present in the meeting.
