Shura Council Participates in Two Coordination Meetings on Sidelines of IPU Assembly

Kigali, October 10 (QNA) - The Shura Council took part in the coordination meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Group, and the coordination meeting of the Islamic Parliamentary Group, which were held today in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, on the sidelines of the 145th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), due to kick off Tuesday. The delegation of the Shura Councils was headed at the two meetings by HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti. During the meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Group, the attendees affirmed support for the efforts exerted by the State of Qatar to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, praising the State's accomplishments to make this tournament a success. The attendees underlined that the tournament represents a success for the State of Qatar and the Arab countries and the region as a whole. The attendees also exchanged views on requests to include urgent items on the agenda of the IPU Assembly, or additional items on the agenda of the Governing Council. They also agreed on the candidates of the Arab Group for vacant positions in the IPU permanent or subsidiary committees. Meanwhile, the meeting of the Islamic Parliamentary Group touched on a number of topics on the agenda, and discussed the adoption of a unified position on issues of common concern to the Islamic Group on the agenda of the IPU Assembly. During the two meetings, HE the Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council highlighted the State of Qatar's efforts to successfully host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, looking forward to welcoming the fans in this distinguished tournament, which will contribute to the rapprochement of peoples and the strengthening of ties between them.
