Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology Marks World Standards Day

Doha, October 13 (QNA) - The State of Qatar, represented by Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology, and all member states of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) participated in the celebration of the World Standards Day, which falls on October 14 of each year, and is an opportunity to praise the tireless efforts of thousands of experts around the world to develop voluntary technical agreements to be published as international standards. The commemoration of this year's World Standards Day comes under the slogan "A Shared Vision for a Better World", indicating that the entire standards system is based on the principle of cooperation and through working together, realistic solutions can be provided to overcome the challenges of achieving sustainability, and from this point, the main international organizations for standardization to celebrate the World Standards Day every year to highlight the role that international standards play in the success of the sustainable development goals. In the annual message of the major international organizations for standardization issued on the occasion of celebrating World Standards Day, they indicated that the ambitious sustainable development goals aimed at addressing social imbalances, developing a sustainable economy and slowing the pace of climate change, require the cooperation of many partners from the public and private sectors and the employ all available means, including international standards and conformity assessment. At the conclusion of its annual message and in the context of the challenges posed by the Coronavirus pandemic on the world, the main international organizations for standardization called for the need to address the sustainable development goals in a comprehensive manner, with the aim of strengthening societies and making them more resilient, indicating the importance of joining them to emphasize the importance of the sustainable development goals to a better rebuilding, as standards have become more important than ever, calling for standing together to accelerate the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by setting standards for these goals.
