Force One to become operational in October
Pune, Jun 5 (PTI) The anti-terrorist combat unit of
Mumbai police 'Force One' up by western state Maharashtra
government in the aftermath of 26/11 is expected to become
operational in October, State Home Minister Jayant Patil said.
Inaugurating the second training phase of the elite force
here at Wonowri near here Thursday evening, Patil said the
state had recruited the best available policemen for the
specialised unit, expected to be operational by October this
year and would be positioned at strategic locations to respond
promptly to any emergency situation.
State Deputy Director General S Jagannathan will head the
'Force One', which is modeled on the NSG.
In the first phase of training 320 men were recruited
after rigorous screening and for the second phase 220 were
enlisted, he said.
The minister, talking to reporters later denied the
Opposition allegations that bullet proof jackets purchased by
the government were of sub-standard quality, claiming that the
whole transaction was done in a transparent manner. PTI HBJ
