Doha, October 17 (QNA) - The Director of Educational Policies and Research Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr. Nouf Abdullah Al Kaabi, affirmed the ministry’s belief in the importance of values and morals in life, as they represent good roots and the fertile land on which nations are built, noting that the ministry launched a national research project last year, in partnership with a number of ministries and leading academic institutes, which aims to diagnose the reality of children and youth in Qatari society, in order to reach a greater awareness of behavioral problems that threaten its entity and stability. In a speech on the sidelines of the Forum for 'Promoting Moral Values among Children and Youths', organized by the Ministry, Al Kaabi noted the combined efforts of forty researchers and academics to reach more than 170 educational institutions from public and private schools and universities, and to hold dozens of seminars and personal interviews with stakeholders, and a survey of the opinions of more than three thousand educators and university students, in addition to a deep analysis of dozens of behavioral records of school and university students, which enabled the issuance of five researches through which a real diagnosis of behavioral challenges among school students and youth in Qatari society was reached. She explained that the studies showed a number of very important results, including the disruption of the role of the family and the absence of understanding and effective family communication, which is the first factor in the emergence of behavioral deviations between children and adolescents, in addition to the weak educational role of educational institutions at various levels of study, and the absence of diverse and targeted programs and activities directed at children and youth, and the loss of the compass of values and identity between adolescents and youth as a result of a value and cultural conflict caused by openness to communication and media networks. The forum included four discussion sessions, in the first the issues and challenges of raising young people in Qatari society were discussed, Brigadier Dr Ibrahim Muhammad Al-Samih, Director of the Community Police Department at the Ministry of Interior, reviewed the most important behavioral problems faced by the Community Police Department within the educational system, while Lulwa Rashid Al-Nuaimi, Head of the Educational Policies and Research Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, addressed the factors that cause negative behaviors and violations in public and private schools, while Abdullah Muhammad Al-Nisf, Academic Representative at Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Preparatory School for Boys, spoke about positive and benign behaviors in the school community that reflect religious values and sound Islamic upbringing. For her part, the Director of the Department of Culture and Arts at the Ministry of Culture Maryam Yassin Al-Hammadi, stressed in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) the importance of the forum and the issues and themes it addressed and their relationship to education and upbringing, noting that the Ministry of Culture made a presentation on cultural problems and their impact on behavior, addressing cultural problems resulting from lack or weakness of the cultural dose provided by the family, or through education or culture, and linking these problems with the challenges facing societies, as well as with values and perceptions, and depending on the conscience of individuals and their awareness of the idea, and thus its impact on behavior.
