Doha, October 25 (QNA) - HE Vice-Chairperson of the Permanent Population Committee (PPC) Sultan Al Kuwari said Tuesday that a comprehensive and in-depth evaluation showed progress in achieving the objectives of the State of Qatar's second population policy cycle (2017-2022). At the PPC's celebration of Qatar Population Day 2022, His Excellency stated that the second population policy cycle achieved about 67 percent of its objectives to a high degree, and 22 percent of them to an acceptable degree. As for the goals that were not achieved, for one reason or another, they did not exceed 11 percent, he added. In his opening speech on behalf of HE President of Planning and Statistics Authority and Chairperson of the PPC Dr. Saleh bin Mohammad Al Nabit, Al Kuwari said that this celebration coincides with the remarkable success achieved by the State of Qatar in preparing for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 from Nov. 20 to Dec.18, 2022. Al Kuwari expressed the positive interaction and cooperation of all ministries, national authorities, and institutions in implementing the second population policy cycle, which contributed to an objective assessment based on the data obtained from the population reality, stressing the need to continue the cooperative approach among all to implement the third population policy cycle (2023-2027), which the PPC is currently designing, in the required manner and at the appropriate time. PPC's celebration of Qatar Population Day comes under the slogan 'five years of implementing the second population policy (2017-2022) for the State of Qatar, what has been achieved', as part of its celebrations of the World Population Day, which was established by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 1989, and based on the Council of Ministers' resolution in its regular meeting (27) on Oct. 6, 2010 approving the organization of the Qatari Population Day in the month of October of each year. Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (the Sub-Regional Office for the Gulf Cooperation Council), Karl Kulessa stressed the importance of the State of Qatar's population policy and its role in ensuring a better quality of life for all, noting that the UNPFA's agenda for the GCC region focuses more than ever on providing the youth of the region with the skills needed to realize everyone's potential, and empowering women to further participate in all aspects of life. The activities of the celebration of the Qatar Population Day witnessed honoring the members of the PPC, heads of groups and former members of groups, in appreciation of their efforts and effective role in following up the implementation of the population policy action program. A session was also held under the title 'results of the State of Qatar's second population policy assessment (2017-2022)', presented by HE Sultan Al Kuwari. During the session, Dr. Yousef Al Brik, expert in the Committee's technical office presented its most important results, indicating the methodology that was used in the evaluation process, and its most important results, noting that these results will be one of the sources of drawing the general features of the new population policy of the State of Qatar.
