Peerbhoy, associates sent emails before blasts: Delhi Police

New Delhi, Jun 6 (PTI) Suspected Indian Mujahideen member
Mansoor Asghar Peerbhoy and his two associates were Saturday
accused by the Delhi police of sending terror emails to media
houses immediately before the serial blasts in the capital on
September 13 last year.

"Peerbhoy, 32, and his associates Mobin Kader Sheikh, 25,
and Asif Basir Sheikh, 23, had hacked the wi-fi network of a
private company near Thane and forwarded the mails to
different media organisations," the police alleged in a
supplementary chargesheet filed before a court here in India's
national capital.

Peerbhoy, a computer engineer who had worked for Yahoo
Inc, was alleged to be the head of Indian Mujahideen's media
cell.

He used to hack the wi-fi network while Mobin, a graduate
in computer science, used to draft the mails which were
translated from Urdu into English by Asif, they said.

The police in the chargesheet, filed in the court of
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja, accused the three
of acting in criminal conspiracy with other members of Indian
Mujahideen.

The accused, arrested by Mumbai police in September last
year, were sought to be prosecuted under various provisions
of the IPC, Explosive Substances Act, Unlawful Activities
(Prevention) Act and the Information and Technology Act.

The court, taking into consideration the chargesheet
filed in connection with the case registered with Karol Bagh
police station here, issued production warrants against the
three accused for June 27.

Peerbhoy and associates, all hailing from Pune in
Maharashtra, were also alleged to have sent similar emails to
media houses before the Ahmedabad serial blasts on July 26.

According to the police, Asif, who worked in a private
firm, came into contact with Riyaz and Iqbal Bhatkal during
his Urdu learning classes in Pune. The Bhatkal brothers,
wanted in the September 13 serial blasts here, allegedly
motivated him to join Indian Mujahideen.

The police alleged Sheikh, arrested from Pune in
September last year, later instigated Peerbhoy to join IM.

Delhi police had interrogated Peerbhoy, Mobin and Asif in
March.

On March 17, the court had sent the three suspected
Indian Mujahideen terrorists, including its media cell head
Peerbhoy, to Maharashtra.

The police had on April 15 filed a supplmentary
chargesheet against the three in connection with case of the
serial blasts registered with Barakhambha Road police station
in Delhi.

Five chargesheets had already been filed against Mohd
Saif, Zeeshan Ahmed, Zia-ur Rehman, Mohd Shakeel, Saquib
Nissar and others in connection with the cases registered
following the serial blasts here.

A series of blasts had rocked the national capital on
September 13 last year killing 26 persons and injuring over
100. The police had also secured non-bailable warrants against
16 suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorists, including its
Pakistan-based founder Amir Raza Khan, who were still
absconding. PTI
