Arab League Permanent Representatives' Meeting Reveals Road Map for Algeria Summit

Algeria, October 26 (QNA) - "The challenges are great, the situation is sensitive and accurate, and the aspirations and hopes of the Arab people are increasing." With these words, Permanent Representative of Algeria to the Arab League Nazir Al Arbaoui, whose country is chairing the 31st Ordinary Arab Summit, revealed the road map for the Algeria summit, which will kick off on Nov.1, 2022. During the work of the preparatory meeting of the Arab League Council at the permanent representatives level for the work of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level, Algeria's representative to the Arab League said, in his speech after his country took over the presidency from Tunisia, that the Algeria summit is being held three years after the Arab summits were unable to be held. He added that during these years, there were regional and international developments and changes, with the escalation of risks, starting with the global health crisis and its repercussions, to the state of severe polarization and its dire repercussions on the international system and multilateral relations and its repercussions on the Arab world, politically, security and economically in particular. He cautioned that the challenges are great, the situation is sensitive, and the aspirations and hopes of the Arab peoples are increasing in light of the continuation and escalation of crises, events and regional and international developments. Al Arbaoui stressed that these challenges urgently require all of us to coordinate collective political and diplomatic efforts, unify positions and formulate a common vision, in addition to activating, renewing and developing our joint work mechanisms so that we can defend our interests, our just causes and our legitimate rights, especially the Palestinian cause. Algeria's permanent representative to the Arab League congratulated the Palestinian people for the Palestinian factions' signing of the "Algeria Declaration" emanating from the Unification Conference in order to achieve Palestinian national unity, which was held recently in Algeria. He expressed his country's aspirations for the "Algeria Summit" to be a consensual Arab summit based on common constants and reflecting the aspirations of the Arab peoples yearning for solidarity, synergy and integration, a summit that learns from the lessons of the past and collectively faces the challenges of the present and looks to the future with a comprehensive strategic vision in order to enhance security and stability, in light of extending bridges of constructive and positive cooperation with our Islamic and African surroundings. Nazir Al Arbaoui called the meeting of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives to a renewed approach to deal with the agenda today, which is full of various political issues, an efficient and positive approach that enables us, collectively and consensually, to address these issues and submit valid, practical and constructive draft resolutions and recommendations to the foreign ministers during their preparatory meeting for the promising Arab summit. He noted that the Arab summit is being held simultaneously with the 58th Anniversary of the Outbreak of the Algerian Revolution, which is dear to every Arab citizen, wishing success for the summit's work. In turn, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League Ambassador Hossam Zaki praised, in his opening speech, the Algerian efforts to organize the "first Arab summit without paper" a success, affirming that this Algerian step would transfer the Arab League to the ranks of organizations that deal with high and modern level to serve the issues of the Arab nation and member states. For his part, permanent representative of Tunisia to the Arab League Mohamed Ben Youssef affirmed that the Arab leaders seek to unite, promote joint Arab action, and achieve integration in various aspects through the Algeria Summit. He pointed out to the current accurate international conditions with the aggravation of international crises with the outbreak of the Ukrainian crisis, which was preceded by the Coronavirus pandemic, and its direct repercussions on the Arab region. Tunisia's representative to the Arab League explained that his country, during its presidency of the Arab Summit in its previous session, worked to strengthen the efforts of the League of Arab States, in order to achieve the greatest degree of coordination between Arab countries regarding many common issues. On the sidelines of the permanent representatives' meeting, the Arab League called on the United Nations to assume its responsibilities by taking urgent action with the international parties concerned with providing an international protection system for the Palestinian people. Assistant Arab League Secretary-General for Palestine Affairs and Occupied Territories Dr. Said Abu Ali condemned, in press statements, the barbaric Israeli aggression that resulted in the death of six Palestinians and the injury of dozens of others, affirming that the aggression that took place using military force in the city of Nablus in the West Bank constitutes a full-fledged war crime. He explained that the Palestinian Cause is always on the agenda of the Arab League, especially at the summit level, and that they are in Algeria today to prepare the preparatory meetings leading to the holding of the Arab summit, which will be at the forefront of its agenda, the main item, which is the developments of the Palestinian cause, especially the recent Israeli escalation. The meeting works of the Council of the League at the level of Permanent Representatives launched today at the International Conference Center Abdelatif Rahal in Algiers, Algeria, with the participation of the State of Qatar. The Council of the League at the level of Permanent Representatives will submit, to the preparatory meeting of the Arab Foreign Ministers for the 31 Arab Summit - which is expected to be held from Oct. 29-30, the agreed draft resolutions on many political, economic, and social files along with issues on the agenda of the 31st session, on top of which is the Palestinian issue and the Arab-Israeli conflict, current international and regional developments, the issue of Arab food security, and the situations in Lebanon, Syria, Libya, Yemen, and Somalia. Senior officials of the Economic and Social Council are scheduled to hold a preparatory meeting for the Arab League Council at the Summit level on Oct. 28,2022. Algeria completed its final preparations to host the Arab Summit, stressing its determination to make it a success, coming up with outcomes that fulfill the aspirations of the Arab people. In addition to the Arab leaders, Algeria extended invitations to guests of honor, notably Secretary-General of the UN Antonio Guterres. It is worth mentioning that the last Arab Summit was held in 2019 after postponing it in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. (QNA)
