Kyrgyz Parliament speaker takes part in meeting of IPA CIS Council in Samarkand

Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament Nurlanbek Shakiev took part in the meeting of the Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS) in Samarkand city of Uzbekistan. Opening the event, Chairwoman of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matviyenko congratulated Nurlanbek Shakiev on his election to the post of Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh. In his welcoming speech, Nurlanbek Shakiev congratulated his colleagues on the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Agreement on the establishment of the Assembly. "We attach great importance to strengthening the potential of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, based on trust and mutual understanding," he said. TheKyrgyz speaker dwelled on the upcoming tasks and expressed his readiness for joint constructive work. “In the current difficult conditions of the modern and dynamically changing world, the IPA CIS should continue to demonstrate its relevance as an effective structure for multilateral cooperation, strengthening mutually beneficial partnerships in all areas of political, economic, humanitarian cooperation, including in the field of collective security,” Shakiev noted. Within the framework of the meeting of the Council of the IPA CIS, issues of the upcoming Fifty-fourth plenary meeting of the Assembly were discussed, information was presented on the chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the CIS, on the activities of the Permanent Commissions and the approval of their chairmen. The results of the events of the current year were also summed up and the work plan of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS member states for 2023 was determined. During the discussion of this item, it was noted that the chairmanship in the CIS moves to Kyrgyzstan. Nurlanbek Shakiev stressed that, as part of its chairmanship, the Kyrgyz side developed the Concept of Chairmanship and an Action Plan for its productive conduct in 2023. “The Jogorku Kenesh will strive to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation of the CIS member states in order to further converge the legislations of our countries in various fields. In this regard, let me propose to hold the autumn field meeting of the IPA CIS in the Kyrgyz Republic next year in 2023,” the speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh noted. He also proposed to hold a conference in Bishkek dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of the great Kyrgyz writer Chyngyz Aitmatov within the framework of the IPA CIS meetings. In turn, Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh, Chairman of the IPA CIS Control and Budget Commission Iskender Matraimov made a report on financing the activities of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS member states. In his speech, Matraimov expressed the readiness of the Kyrgyz side to hold a field meeting of the Control and Budget Commission in June 2023 in Kyrgyzstan.
