Qatari Newspapers Editorials

Doha, October 30 (QNA) - In their editorials on Sunday, Qatari newspapers highlighted the General Secretariat of the of the Gulf Cooperation Council's (GCC) denunciation of the statements of German Interior Minister regarding Qatar's hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, as they constitute a violation of diplomatic norms and traditions and international laws. The newspapers referred to GCC Secretary-General Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al Hajraf's statement in which he affirmed the GCC countries' supportive position to the State of Qatar in confronting any interference in its internal affairs by publishing allegations that do not serve the establishment of normal relations between the two countries. The papers also noted the GCC Secretary-General's affirmation that the State of Qatar continues to achieve accomplishments, and that Qatar's hosting of the 2022 World Cup constitutes a well-deserved source of pride and honor. Al Hajraf praised the pioneering role of Qatar in building civilized communication and promoting understanding between peoples in a framework of mutual respect. The newspapers considered that the GCC General Secretariat's statement is important for two reasons, the first of which lies in addressing everything that could offend one of the GCC countries, and secondly, that the statement issued by the German Minister of Interior is an insult to all GCC states and to all Arabs, given that Qatar's hosting of the tournament is justice done to a region suffering from an unjust stereotype for decades. Al-Raya hailed the GCC General Secretariat's honorable stance towards the State of Qatar and its entitlement to organize the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The daily underlined the General Secretariat's denunciation of the German Minister's malicious allegations, noting Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al Hajraf's affirmation of the GCC countries' supportive position to the State of Qatar in confronting any interference in its internal affairs by publishing allegations that do not serve the establishment of normal relations between the two countries and constitute a violation of diplomatic norms and traditions and international laws. The newspaper pointed out that the Gulf Cooperation Council's stance reflects the stance of its peoples, and the peoples of the Arab and Islamic worlds, and even all the peoples of the world who love the values of peace, coexistence and rapprochement between different cultures on the basis of mutual respect. The paper highlighted the GCC Secretary-General's affirmation that the State of Qatar continues to achieve accomplishments, and that Qatar's hosting of the 2022 World Cup constitutes a well-deserved source of pride and honor. In conclusion, Al-Raya concluded by saying the Gulf and Arab support also reflects confidence in Qatar’s organization of an exceptional tournament that will remain firmly in mind at the level of organization and the good hospitality and generosity of hosting all different cultures. For its part, Al-Watan daily hailed in its editorial the GCC General Secretariat's statements denouncing the German Interior Minister regarding Qatar's hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, considering it a violation of diplomatic norms and traditions and international laws. The paper referred to GCC Secretary-General Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al Hajraf's statement in which he affirmed the GCC countries' supportive position to the State of Qatar in confronting any interference in its internal affairs by publishing allegations that do not serve the establishment of normal relations between the two countries. The paper also noted the GCC Secretary-General's affirmation that the State of Qatar continues to achieve accomplishments, and that Qatar's hosting of the 2022 World Cup constitutes a well-deserved source of pride and honor. Al Hajraf praised the pioneering role of Qatar in building civilized communication and promoting understanding between peoples in a framework of mutual respect. Al-Watan concluded its editorial by saying that the German Interior Minister's statements are unforgivable, as they aim to create a great confusion that cannot be accepted, not by Qatar alone, but by the GCC states and all Arabs. In its editorial, Al-Sharq newspaper said that although the slander, lies and distortion campaigns that the State of Qatar has been subjected to since winning the organizing of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 have shown the different agendas of those behind them, and also demonstrated the continuation of some in promoting the unjust stereotype that the Arab region has been suffering from for decades, but these suspicious campaigns provided an opportunity for the State of Qatar to show its best and turn those challenges into an incentive to present an exceptional edition of the World Cup, and to achieve impressive achievements in its development path. The paper affirmed that these unprecedented campaigns were not all evil, as they allow many fair voices to defend Qatar and highlight its great achievements and reforms that were praised by the most important human rights and international organizations. The paper indicated that the provocative and irresponsible statements by the German Minister pf Interior against Qatar's hosting of the tournament were condemned by all honorable people in the world, as the first responses came from within her country itself, especially from former German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel, who said "The United Nations and the International Labor Organization praise every day the reforms achieved by Qatar, and only Germans criticize them every day. It is German arrogance towards Qatar." The paper also referred to a prominent Belgian journalist who said: "we have been attacking Qatar for months and at the same time begging for gas from it to be able to heat and turn on the lights during the winter." It is the same hypocrisy of the Australian players who joined the campaign, while their praises for the State of Qatar, which hosted their matches and camp last June, are still documented, the paper added. The State of Qatar is continuing its achievements, and it does not need to be reminded of the role it plays in building civilized communication and promoting understanding between peoples in a framework of mutual respect, Al-Sharq concluded. In turn, The Peninsula said that since winning the right to host the FIFA World Cup in 2010, Qatar has overcome many challenges including the recent COVID-19 pandemic to stay on track to deliver a blockbuster football showpiece. Qatar made herculean efforts over the years to ensure complete readiness to stage the game's biggest spectacle, the paper said, noting that all the arrangements are in place for example accommodation for an estimated 1.2 million fans from across the globe has been ensured. When it comes to the participating teams, Qatar 2022 could be termed the best ever because of training facilities of their choice and less travel times for the players during matches due to tournament’s compact nature as all eight stadiums are located within an hour's travel from each other , the paper added In conclusion, The Peninsula said that when Qatar will welcome all the visiting fans during the tournament, they will experience the country's rich culture and hospitality themselves, and that the successful Qatar 2022 will open the door for more FIFA showpiece events in the region in future.
