Doha, November 02 (QNA) - In their editorials Wednesday, Qatari newspapers highlighted HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's participation in the meetings of the 31st ordinary session of the Council of the Arab League at the summit level, hosted by the sisterly People's Democratic Republic of Algeria. The newspapers said that HH's participation affirms the keenness of the State of Qatar, its leadership, government and people to strengthen and deepen cooperation and joint Arab action, pointing out that the Arab Summit is being held under exceptional circumstances and unprecedented political, security and economic challenges, which necessitate Arab leaders to find solutions and commonality for many important and urgent issues. Al-Sharq daily emphasized that HH the Amir's participation in the Arab Summit in Algeria and his meetings with a number of Their Excellencies and Highnesses on the sidelines of the summit reflect the great importance that His Highness attaches to the issues and interests of the Arab nation, and HH's great keenness to contribute to all efforts that would support and strengthen the unity of the Arab ranks and solidarity and joint action. The newspaper indicated that His Highness always defends in all regional and international forums the interests and issues of the nation, especially the Palestinian cause. HH also remained at the forefront of supporters of joint Arab action, and in addressing major challenges and contributing to efforts to resolve conflicts in the region to achieve stability and maintain peace and security. The paper also hailed the deep relations with the sisterly Republic of Algeria, noting that HH's participation along with HE President of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria Abdelmadjid Tebboune in the inauguration of the Algerian Qatari-German hospital project, set to be established in Algeria, and the inauguration of the Algerian Qatari Steel (AQS) company. These projects strengthen the relations that are moving towards a strategic partnership between the two brotherly countries, after they have expanded thanks to the mutual visits between the leaderships of the two countries, the paper added. Al-Sharq concluded by emphasizing that the Qatari-Algerian relations constitute a model in the direction of strengthening the principles of joint Arab cooperation, moving towards integration and building an impregnable Arab economic bloc that preserves the common interests of Arab countries and supports brotherly ties and cooperation among Arab peoples, as called for by the Algeria Summit. For its part, Al-Watan said that the Arab summit is being held under exceptional circumstances and unprecedented political, security and economic challenges, which necessitates Arab leaders to find solutions and commonality for many important and urgent issues. The paper stressed that HH the Amir's participation in the Summit affirms the keenness of the State of Qatar to contribute effectively to achieving the desired goals of its convening, pointing out that the State of Qatar is known for its keenness on the unity of the Arab ranks and the success of every joint action to reach the desired goals and on top of all that comes the Palestinian cause. The newspaper drew attention to the internal crises that afflict many Arab countries, where the issue of food security emerges as one of the most serious crises, especially in light of the international repercussions. Therefore, it is not surprising that the Qatari representation in the 31st Arab Summit in Algeria is at the highest levels. Qatar wants to send a clear message to all those Arab issues, especially the just Palestinian cause, are at the forefront of Qatar's concerns and foreign policy, the paper noted. Al-Raya concluded by noting the depth of the Qatari-Algerian relations, which have always been strong and solid and are considered a good model for relations between the brotherly Arab countries, as they are based on historical foundations honed by decades of cooperation and synergy between the two leaderships. Relations between the two sides have been strengthened, expanded, and further consolidated through a series of mutual visits between the leaderships of the two countries. For its part, the English-language newspaper, The Peninsula, said in its editorial, under the title "50 years of popular participation", that the Shura Council's 50th-anniversary celebration, an important occasion marking the journey of Qatar in nation-building as it engaged the citizens in managing their country’s affairs. The journey which began in 1972 had seen many important steps along the way, which showed the keenness of the country’s leadership in popular participation in decision-making, the paper said. In this regard, the paper highlighted the statements of HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim in which he underlined the "wise leadership’s belief in the popular engagement in setting the legislations which are candidly embodied in many places, including Article 1 of the Provisional Basic Law of 1970, the Amended Provisional Basic Law of 1972, and in the country’s permanent constitution promulgated in 2004." The Peninsula pointed out that holding elections last year for two-thirds of Council members through voting for the first time in the council’s history, setting up the Shura Council, and nurturing it by making it an important body through which the people’s participation in decision-making is ensured and encouraged shows the thoughtfulness of the country’s leadership. In conclusion, The Peninsula noted that as the name Shura suggests, the Council is a place of "consultations", where every vital law and legal instrument are discussed and inputs are taken before approval is given, thus ensuring the engagement of the citizens in every aspect of the developments and progress the country achieves.
