Bickering in an ethnic Indian party continues in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, June 7 (PTI) Political bickering in a
Malaysian party dominated by ethnic Indians remains unabated
after an expelled member who is also a federal minister said
that leadership issue in the outfit remains far from settled.

T Murugiah claimed he was the president of the
People's Progressive Party (PPP), a component of the ruling
coalition of Barisan Nasional while party president M Kayveas
was technically the party chief only until the Registrar of
Societies (ROS) completed its investigations.

"Do not assume that the wrongdoings committed under your
leadership have been legitimised by the ROS. The battle is not
over and I will continue until all PPP members get justice,"
Murugiah said in a statement.

He was responding to reports quoting Kayveas as saying
that the doors to PPP were already closed to him.

Murugiah said ROS had not closed the case or stopped
investigations but merely stated that the latter was the
president until ROS arrived at a final decision.

"ROS has not arrived at a conclusion on the matter as all
complaints are currently under investigation," he said.

Murugiah is a deputy minister in the Prime Minister Najib
Razak's cabinet. PTI JB
