MIC to offer financial aid to ethnic Indian students
Kuala Lumpur, June 7 (PTI) Malaysia's largest ethnic
Indian political party MIC has said it will offer partial
study aid to the community's students who fail to get the
government scholarships.
The scholarship issue has often needled the minority
ethnic Indian community here which feels despite securing top
marks many do not get a government scholarships to pursue
further education.
The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) said it will offer
aid to those students whose applications for the government
for scholarship through the MIC are turned down. The MIC
handled 240 such cases.
MIC president Samy Vellu said the students could now opt
for studies at a discounted rate at the Asian Institute of
Medicine where 200 places would be available in the next
intake in September.
He said obtaining financial aid and university places
should no longer be a major concern among parents as MIC-owned
Maju Institute of Educational Development had disbursed more
than 90 million ringgit in scholarships so far.
On the coming MIC elections, Vellu said he is yet to
decide whom to endorse for the post of deputy president which
is being contested by current deputy president G Palanivel,
vice-president S Sothinathan or former deputy president S
Subramaniam. PTI JB
