Qatar 2022/ FIFA World Cup Volunteers Answer Call for Blood Donation

Doha, November 09 (QNA) - FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 volunteers participated in the blood supply campaign led by Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) - Qatar’s main provider of specialist healthcare services. Volunteers arriving for their final training sessions ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 were greeted by one of HMC’s Mobile Blood Donation Units just outside the Doha Exhibition Centre (DEC) and soon began lining up by the dozen to answer the call and donate blood for this worthy cause. The campaign targeted volunteers, the beating heart of the tournament, who receive the last training sessions at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Volunteer center, located within the Doha Exhibition Center, in preparation for participating in supporting the operations of the World Cup, whose competitions will start in a few days, and attract the attention of fans from all over the world. Chairperson of HMC’s Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Dr. Einas Al Kuwari, praised the volunteers with several first-time donors coming forward. She said: "Besides boosting Qatar’s blood supply, this also provides a welcome opportunity to engage with the volunteers and spread awareness of the importance of donating blood among their diverse communities, letting people see how safe and easy the process is, and promoting the overall spirit of humanitarianism." Dr. Al Kuwari added that there’s no doubt that the donations we received today will benefit those in need. A single pint of blood can save up to three lives, so every donor has a powerful, positive impact. Volunteer Mohammed Naufal said that giving blood is a small thing for me but it can have a huge impact if it helps to save someone’s life. It’s an even more direct way for me as a volunteer to show how we are all connected and can make a positive impact on each other’s lives. Among the medical staff, two HMC nurses admitted a special connection to the Volunteer Centre and the upcoming FIFA World Cup. said Amani Aweek said that they are also World Cup volunteers, adding that they make time because it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be involved with the tournament. Her colleague, Elsa Manuzon, said that nursing and volunteering both give a chance to help people adding that she even wore her volunteer T-shirt under her medical gown to show her pride and to encourage her fellow volunteers who are donating and giving their all. It is noteworthy that the Volunteer Center witnessed last weekend the conclusion of the training program for World Cup Qatar 2022 volunteers, which provided more than 300 training sessions, over more than 1,300 hours, through an interactive training system. It combines training activities in person or online, in addition to workshops, training on performing tasks, as well as training in the World Cup stadiums. (QNA)
