Panel Discussion on "Decarbonization Day" Held at Qatar's Pavilion at COP 27 Conference

Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt), November 11 (QNA) - A discussion panel entitled "Decarbonization Day "was held today at the State of Qatar Pavilion within the activities of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Climate Change Convention (COP 27) taking place in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. The discussion aimed at highlighting the ways to remove carbon as is considered the main cause of the global warming, as well as, to study the identification of prompt solutions to reduce its presence in the Earth's atmosphere. The Discussion Panel included three main themes, where Dr. Dhabia Al Mohannadi and Dr. Patrick Linke, from Texas A&M University, Qatar, spoke in the first theme, titled "New Methodologies to Help Decarbonize". The second theme, in which Dr. Marcello Contestabile and Adam Hawkes of Qatar Foundation, aimed at the importance of developing cost-effective decarbonization pathways in Qatar and the GCCs, while the third theme of the session, titled "How to Avoid Carbon Mitigation and Offset" in Qatar during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Talarsasovar-Oglu of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy. During the session, there was also a discussion on policies and procedures on decarbonization policies and procedures in Kazakhstan, in which, the Director of the Department of Climate Policy and Green Technology of the Kazakh Ministry of Environment, Geology and Natural Resources, Ainur Kopbayeva delivered her notes. The participants in the Discussion Panel, which was held at the Qatari Pavilion, reviewed potential technologies and solutions to reduce carbon emissions in the atmosphere, stressing that the State of Qatar has placed the issue of environmental protection and support for sustainable development at the forefront of its priorities, and has demonstrated in more than one occasion, its permanent commitment in addressing the global environmental challenges. Also, they stressed that the climate change is a national priority for the State of Qatar, so the country has worked to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in all sectors, noting that Qatar has spared no effort to ensure the success of the negotiations that led to the adoption of the "Paris Agreement on Climate Change" in 2015, and Qatar was one of the first signatories to this important agreement, as well as its support to the international efforts to promote sustainability, through projects that provide assistance to the most affected parties by the climate change. The participants in the Discussion Panel pointed out that the national strategy of State of Qatar for Environment and Climate Change, represents a fundamental pillar of public policies for the preservation of the environment for the benefit of present and future generations. The Paris Agreement on Climate Change urged signatories to work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, so that the temperature of the Earth's atmosphere can be reduced by 1.5 degrees Celsius, while the Paris climate agreement stipulated the commitment of countries to fight the causes of climate change.
