GCC and Yemen Foreign Ministers Hold Joint Meeting 2 Riyadh
A statement issued following the meeting said that the foreign
ministers joint meeting focused on promoting coordination and
consultation, and reviewing the progress achieved in all areas of
cooperation between the two sides.
It said that the foreign ministers listened to a report from the GCC
Secretary General on the progress achieved on means of bolstering
cooperation between the GCC states and the Republic of Yemen,
particularly in the development process, noting that the total volume
of current pledges of GCC states and regional funds amounted to about
$ 3.5 billion for Yemeni projects from 2007-2010. "So far, an amount
of nearly $ 3.2 billion, or about 90% of the total pledges, was
allocated and distributed for more than 50 developmental projects and
programs agreed upon between the two sides. Financing agreements
worth more than $ 1.5 billion were signed including among others
financing projects for production of electricity, roads, seaports
and airports, construction and rehabilitation of a number of
hospitals, construction and equipping institutes of technical
education and training, Social Development Fund, and Program for
Public Works.
