Appeal court cancels sentence of acquitting antiquities dealer
SANA'A, June 08 (Saba)- Appeal court of Sana'a canceled a sentence
stated to acquit a suspect Hassan al-Dais in charge of trading
antiquities.Tough
Headed by the Judge Hamoud al-Haridi, the appeal court found al-Dais
is guilty fined him YR 50,000 for fund of supporting antiquities as
well as seized the antiquities in his custody.
In July of 2008, the primary court acquitted al-Dais and returned
the seized antiquities to him.
Al-Dais was arrested last year and seized a bronze antique in his
custody.
According to the director of antiquities Protection at the General
Organization of antiquities and Museums Hisham al-Thawr said that
the object dated back to Hamirat age.
He added that the GOAM would study the object as that would help to
know more about the site where it was discovered.
It is worth mentioning that the appeal court is still looking at
other four cases of smuggling and trading antiquates. It is
scheduled to deliver sentences in these cases soon.
