Doha, January 01 (QNA) - In their editorials on Sunday, local newspapers highlighted the State of Qatar's unique and unprecedented internal and external achievements during 2022 in all fields. The newspapers unanimously agreed that the State of Qatar has strengthened its global position in an unprecedented manner during 2022, which witnessed the prominent presence of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in international and regional forums. This constituted a strong impetus for the State of Qatar and its active and influential role in important issues. For its part, Al-Sharq newspaper said that the State of Qatar faced major challenges in 2022 with determination and managed to overcome them, adding that the State enters the new year with an impressive record of achievements thanks to the sound vision, strong political will, and wise leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. It noted that the State of Qatar concluded the year by organizing the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 from Nov. 20 to Dec. 18, an event that put the country at the center of global attention. The newspaper pointed out that the international and regional media described the Qatar edition as the best in terms of organization, services, security, excitement and surprises in the stadiums, noting that this tournament has strengthened not only Qatar's status, but also changed people's view of the Arab world. Al-Sharq concluded its editorial by saying that Qatar is entering the new year with more confident and optimism that this year will provide a stronger breakthrough for the State in the global and regional scene, backed by its achievements as the capital of mediation, peace, media, and sports, and as one of the most influential countries in terms of energy supplies. Meanwhile, Al-Watan newspaper said that 2022 will remain a milestone in the history of Qatar, first for hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and secondly because of the inauguration of many infrastructure projects. The newspaper added that 2022 was also a year of economic success, as the national economy achieved a record performance with a real growth rate at constant prices of 6.3 percent during the second quarter of this year on an annual basis, compared to the same period last year. It said that the budget during the first nine months of 2022 achieved a surplus of more than QR 77 billion, compared to 4.9 billion during the same period in 2021. Al-Watan concluded by stressing that the prestigious international position that Qatar has achieved did not come from a vacuum, but rather as a result of years of planning and work until it reached its current position today. For its part, the English-language newspaper The Peninsula said that the State of Qatar is set to bring more major events home in 2023 and continue to be the center of high-profile sports activities after staging the first-ever World Cup in the Middle East and the Arab world. In its editorial the newspaper said that Qatar is ready to host top athletes from across the world throughout 2023, adding that the country’s packed calendar this year includes the AFC Asian Cup, in addition to Formula 1 and MotoGP races at the Lusail International Circuit. It noted that there will be plenty of more action with golf, gymnastics and athletics besides many other competitions being scheduled throughout the year. It pointed out that after shining last year, Team Qatar athletes will be taking part in many international, continental and regional events, and Qatar football team is also looking forward to the Arabian Gulf Cup, which will start in Basra on January 6. The Peninsula concluded its editorial by noting that the determination of Qatar’s officials and athletes is expected to take country’s sports to new heights in 2023. Al-Raya newspaper said, in an article by its editor-in-chief on the impact of the global echoes of the exceptional World Cup achievement, that Qatar bids farewell to a year full of achievements and receives a year full of aspirations to continue the path of leadership, progress and comprehensive renaissance under the leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. In 2022, Qatar was the focus of global attention and admiration, with the greatness and wisdom of its leadership, the development and magnificence of its renaissance, the originality, determination and morals of its people, and the richness and authenticity of its culture, heritage and history. The World Cup was the culmination of a long process of hard work at all levels, the newspaper noted. Al-Raya referred to the assertion of the international media that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 set new standards for the tournament, shifting it from just a major tournament to a civilized forum that rejects differences, stimulates dialogue and civilized rapprochement, and establishes peace and love among people. Under the leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Qatar fulfilled the World Cup promise, with diligent planning and work over a period of 12 years, the newspaper said, pointing out that Qatar, during that period, turned into a large workshop for the advancement of all facilities and services, including roads, bridges, buildings, facilities and means of transportation, new parks and museums, in addition to the comprehensive development of Hamad and Doha ports, civil aviation sector, security, and communications, as well as massive development in health, education, tourism and culture sectors. Al-Raya concluded by saying that HH the Amir's participations in the Arab and Gulf summits and important international conferences have established Qatar's position, role and continuous efforts to support Gulf and Arab action, establish security and peace in the region and the world, and support development and international cooperation to confront economic, security and environmental issues and combat terrorism. For its part, Al-Arab newspaper said in its editorial that 2022 is a Qatari year with distinction, with the testimony of tens of millions around the globe who watched the World Cup, whether those who came to our homeland, or those who watched it through screens. The newspaper praised the Qatari economy, which showed record performance during the 2022 World Cup. Latest indicators show a real growth rate at constant prices of 6.3 percent during the second quarter of this year on an annual basis, compared to the same period last year. Al- Arab concluded by saying that the indicators confirm an increase in the number of tourists during the new year. More than five thousands tourists have arrived on board the latest and most luxurious international ship, which has chosen Qatar to be the beginning of its launch in the Gulf region. (QNA)
