Yemen aims at Gulf markets to assimilate laborers

SANA'A, June 08(Saba) – In a move which comes amid efforts towards a
full integration into the GCC bloc, Yemen plans to sign agreements
with Gulf states to assimilate at least 50.000 Yemeni labors into
Gulf labor markets annually, a government paper has revealed.

To meet the goal, Yemen should make improvements to vocational and
technical education institutions, expanding them and developing
curricula as well as establishing suitable regulations to increase
the enrollment rate, the paper noted.

Yemen should also aim at unified technical job classification and
description and quality measures to those in Gulf.

However, the paper said that the GCC could help Yemen in this regard
providing financial aid to establish further technical institutes in
Yemen and to finance workshops and training courses.

In addition, Gulf authorities could approve a ratio for Yemeni
employees at their markets as well as contacting their Yemeni
counterparts to provide date showing their needs of Yemeni qualified
laborers.

A recent Gulf Consultative Summit, which has held in Riyadh,
approved to include qualified Yemeni laborers in Gulf markets.

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abdul-Karim
al-Arhabi noted that chances of including Yemeni laborers are a lot,
saying there are promising opportunities for qualified and non
qualified Yemeni workers in Gulf markets.

Opening a workshop held on Sunday with the European Commission (EC)
over building the state, al-Arhabi renewed Yemen's assertion on
implementing reforms and improving government performance, as well
as creating active partnership between the government, the private
sector, and social civil society organizations.

Recently, the GCC Secretary General Abdul Rahman al-Attiyah said
that Yemeni labor is the best alternative for foreign workforce in
Gulf markets, affirming qualified Yemeni laborers come first when
the Gulf States consider foreign employment.
