Qatari Newspapers Editorials

Doha, January 03 (QNA) - Qatari newspapers highlighted in their editorials Tuesday the Israeli attempts to Judaize the holy city of Jerusalem, noting that the continuous Israeli provocations have become clearly exposed, especially with the beginning of each new political phase in the occupation entity. The papers pointed to the condemnation by the Shura Council in its regular weekly session yesterday of the Israeli government's continued attempts to Judaize the city of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, warning of the danger that the settlement activities pose on the peace process and the two-state solution. The Qatari dailies underlined that Qatar's official and popular position on the Palestinian cause is clear and firm in support of the Palestinian brothers. Under the headline "Occupation Schemes", Al-Sharq warned that the incitement campaigns launched by the Israeli occupation authorities and settlers against the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, the increase in frequent incursions in December and the repeated threats to change the historical status quo in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, in addition to the escalation of settlement practices in the occupied Palestinian territories and the daily field executions of Palestinian youth would cause a spiral of violence and escalation in the Palestinian territories and have catastrophic repercussions in the region. In this context, Al-Sharq noted that the Shura Council, in its regular weekly session chaired by HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim yesterday, voiced its condemnation and denunciation of the continued attempts of the Israeli government to Judaize the city of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, warning of the danger of settlement activities on the peace process and the two-state solution. The paper added that the Arab Parliament condemned the attempts of the Israeli government to escalate settlement in the West Bank and Jerusalem City, considering such practices a flagrant challenge for the laws of the international community. Al-Sharq called on the international community to take immediate and urgent action to stop the settlement plans, and confront the attempts to change the geographical and historical features of Jerusalem with the aim of Judaizing it, as well as the continuous violations of the sanctity of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. Qatari daily Al-Watan noted the Israeli occupation's ongoing attempts to Judaize the holy city of Jerusalem, citing a report by Israeli newspaper Haaretz which indicated that the process of Judaizing Jerusalem continues and is taking place in full swing, away from the limelight and without affecting the Israeli-US relations. Under the heading "Continuous Violations", Haaretz report confirms that new Jewish neighborhoods are being built and others are being planned behind the Green Line (the eastern part of Jerusalem occupied in 67). In parallel, settler associations are intensifying their efforts to Judaize Silwan, Sheikh Jarrah, Jabal Al Mukaber and Ras Al Amud. Al-Watan called for an Arab and Islamic action to counter the Israeli schemes, which the Shura Council considered, in its weekly session yesterday, to be a clear violation of the rights of the Palestinian people, and of international covenants and resolutions related to the status of the city of Jerusalem. The paper noted that the Shura Council called on the Arab Parliament, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the parliaments of the world to take a stand on the settlement policy, as it constitutes a flagrant assault and a flagrant violation of the basic rights of the Palestinian people. Qatar has repeatedly warned of the danger of the Israeli attempts. A clear Arab and Islamic position is necessary in order to put an end to the Israeli practices and push for a solution that would restore the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, Al-Watan stressed. In turn, Al-Raya newspaper confirmed that the State of Qatar remains at the forefront of the Palestinian cause and defending the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and has never hesitated, under any circumstances, to carry the concerns of the Palestinian brothers in every forum. The Palestinian cause is Qatar's first cause, standing by its firm position and making a promise to spare no effort until justice is achieved for the Palestinian people and they see their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. In its editorial, the newspaper said that the continuous Israeli provocations become more visible with the beginning of every new political phase in the occupation entity to mobilize extremists governments and parties that follow the rhetoric of extremism, exclusion, and the continuation of settlement, striking international resolutions, especially the two-state solution, against the wall. The continuous Israeli provocations, especially with the Israeli government ministers' threats to storm Al-Aqsa Mosque, desecrate its courtyards, hold Talmudic prayers, and provocative movements to abuse and attack the sanctity of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and those stationed in it from the defenseless people of Jerusalem, the paper continued. In this context, the Shura Council condemned and denounced the Israeli government's continuous attempts to Judaize the city of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, and warned against the danger of the settlement development activities on the peace process and the two-state solution, the paper noted. The official and popular Qatari position on the Palestinian issue is always clear and constant, standing by the Palestinians politically, diplomatically, and materially, which enhances their steadfastness in the face of the occupation crimes. Qatar, has always and still, demands the world and international legitimacy, unable to do justice to the Palestinian people, to curb the occupation and force it into accepting the two-state solution aimed at establishing a Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, the paper said. The newspaper wondered what the world is waiting for to lift the historical injustice against the Palestinians who left their land and were killed in cold blood at the hands of the occupation. The international silence from the United Nations and the Security Council towards Israel's action, while fighting for other people shows a double standard. No one deserves more life than another. Al-Raya concluded its editorial by saying that Qatar takes advantage of all international platforms to remind the robbed rights of the Palestinians who suffer from the oldest occupation in the world. Qatar calls on the international community to remove the state of helplessness towards the Palestinian cause and calls on international courts to document and shed light on the crimes committed against the brotherly Palestinian people. For its part, and under the title "Strong condemnation against settlers," the English-language newspaper The Peninsula said, "Last year has been termed one of the most painful years for Palestinians in terms of the scale of human loss, the increase in Israeli aggression, and, more recently, the election of an extreme right-wing Israeli government whose trajectory points at a further denial of their human rights." According to the United Nations (UN), 2022 is the deadliest year for Palestinians in the West Bank in 16 years. Israeli forces killed at least 171 Palestinians in the West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem, including more than 30 children, and at least 9,000 others were injured, the paper highlighted. The Shura Council, in its regular weekly session on Monday chaired by HE Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, condemned the continued attempts of the Israeli government to Judaize the city of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, warning of the danger of settlement development activities on the peace process and the two-state solution. The Shura Council pointed out that these Israeli practices are a clear violation of the rights of the Palestinian people and international covenants and resolutions related to the status of the city of Jerusalem, the paper said. The Peninsula concluded its editorial by referring to the call of the Shura Council to the Arab Parliament, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and the parliaments of the world to take a stand on the settlement policy as a flagrant assault and a blatant violation of the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people.
