Yemen, Italy review arrangements to inaugurate marine radar project
SANA'A, June 10 (Saba) - Yemen and Italy reviewed on Wednesday the
current arrangements for inaugurating the 1st stage of marine radar
project of Yemeni coastguard forces in June 23rd in Aden, which is
being carried out by the Italian company SELEX.
Interior Minister Mutahir al-Masri discussed with the Italian
ambassador to Yemen Mario Bofo aspects of Yemeni-Italian cooperation
and security coordination and ways of enhancing them especially in
coastguard field.
The Minister praised the Yemeni-Italy joint cooperation, valuing
Italy government's efforts providing to Yemeni coastguards in
technical or in training and rehabilitating areas.
Interior Ministry leadership is ready to overcome all the obstacles
that may impede the implementation of the radar project, the
Minister said.
For his part, the Italian ambassador pointed out the significance of
the project, which reflects the strength of the bilateral relations
between Yemen and Italy, showing its country's readiness to provide
the needed supporting in coastguard field.
The Italian company SELEX Sistemi Integrti has signed a € 20 million
contract with Yemeni Coastguard Authority for the supply of a VTMS
system to secure the Yemeni coasts.
The system will provide coverage of about 450 Km of coastline along
the Red Sea facing the Eritrean and Somali coasts and represents a
first stage for a complete surveillance program including two
further development stages.
