Russia hopes to intensify dialogue with India on free trade zone agreement with EAEU
NEW DELHI, March 30. /TASS/. Moscow is counting on more intensive dialogue with New Delhi on signing an agreement on a free trade zone with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Russia's trade representative in India, Alexander Rybas said on Thursday. He was speaking at the ‘Russia-India Business Forum: Strategic Partnership for Development and Growth.’
According to him, it is important to develop cooperation in multilateral formats such as BRICS and SCO.
"The development of cooperation in the format of the Eurasian Economic Union - India is also promising. In this context, we see the signing of a free trade agreement between the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union and India as a priority," Rybas said.
"We hope to intensify the dialogue on this issue," he stressed.
In December 2021, India and the EAEU completed preliminary expert consultations on the creation of a free trade area. The parties agreed to start negotiations on the agreement in early 2022. The EAEU includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
