Activities of Tarim Islamic Culture Capital 2010 discussed
SANA'A, June 14 (Saba)- The technical committee charged to prepare
activities of Tarim City as the Islamic Culture Capital 2010
discussed on Sunday, headed by culture minister Mohammed al-Maflahi,
suggestions and perceptions of the activities.
The discussion dealt with a number of suggestions presented by
bodies related to culture ministry, tourism ministry, Hadhramout and
NGOs.
It also reviewed the projects of infrastructure and development
concerning with aesthetic configuration of Tarim City.
During the meeting, deputy of Culture Minister Hesham Ali was
charged to choose four artists to design the Logo of Tarim Islamic
Culture Capital 2010.
It is worth to mention that Tarim city was approved to be the
Islamic Culture Capital 2010 by the Islamic Educational, Scientific
and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).
The city is famous for its 365 mosques and prominent Islamic
architecture. The most famous of these is the Mihdhar Mosque, with
the distinctive architecture of its 150 meter-high mud minaret.
The current Capital of Islamic Culture is Kairouan in Tunisia. As
part of the year, the city has staged a wide range of exhibitions,
seminars and musical and theatre performances in Kairouan, other
Tunisian cities and even outside Tunisia. Last Year, the Capital of
Islamic culture was Alexandria.
