Population growth overcomes ministry's resources, says al-Jawfi
SANA'A, June 14 (Saba)- Minister of Education Abdul-Salam al-Jawfi
affirmed that the population growth that reached %3.2 devours all
resources and possibilities of the ministry although it builds 1200
schools yearly.
In the opening session of a workshop on Teachers' Guide on
population Education on Sunday, al-Jawfi said that the ministry
established last year at the capital of Sana'a 600 classrooms but
the classes are still crowded with students due to the increased
population growth.
He made reference to the importance of introducing the concepts of
population education into curricula to educate students with the
dangers of population increase.
Al-Jawfi called to unify concepts of population in different public
and university curricula and to qualify teachers to create a
population culture for students.
Chairman of Educational Research and Development Center Saleh
al-Sofi, who organized the workshop in cooperation with UNICEF, said
that 70 trainers would be introduced to the teachers' guide.
He said the workshop, which includes participants from Aden, Hajja,
Mehweet,Hodeidah, Hadhramout and Ibb discusses concepts of
productive health, population, environment, development and gender.
For their parts, chargé d'affaires of UNICEF and head of the team
preparing the guide reviewed efforts have been done since 2006 to
prepare the teachers' guide on population education.
They affirmed the importance of integrating concepts of productive
health, AIDS, gender and development into the curricula.
