Samsung Heavy denies report on Shell order
By Nam Kwnag-sik
SEOUL, June 16 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Heavy Industries Co., the world's
second-biggest shipbuilder, denied a news report Tuesday that a consortium led by
it has been picked up as a top bidder for a 5 trillion won (US$4 billion) order
awarded by Royal Dutch Shell Plc.
The Korea Economic Daily, a local economic newspaper, said that Shell has
selected the consortium of Samsung Heavy and Technip SA, a French oil and gas
producer as a preferred bidder for the order.
"We are bidding to win the order awarded by Royal Dutch Shell to build a
liquefied natural gas FPSO in partnership with Technip. However, nothing on the
bid has yet to be decided as of June 2009," Samsung Heavy said in a regulatory
filing.
A floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel is a type of floating
tank system used by the offshore oil and gas industry.
