Silent Kasab avoids eye contact with witness
Mumbai, June 16 (PTI) Pakistani gunman Ajmal Kasab was
sullen Tuesday in the special court hearing the 26/11 Mumbai
terror attack case and kept his head down when a witness
identified him.
Seeing Kasab sitting with his head low, Special Judge M L
Tahaliyani said, "If you put your head down, the witness will
not be able to look at you and identify you. You should look
at witness."
Following the court's instruction, Kasab looked at the
witness, a railway announcer, who identified him promptly.
Defence counsel Abbas Kazmi said the witness could look
at him and identify Kasab because of the position in which he
was seated. Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam suggested
that if needed Kasab's position in the dock could be changed.
However, Kasab indicated with his hand that he did not
want to change his position.
Later when Kasab's bag was identified by the witness,
Nikam gestured towards Kasab to look at the bag, but the
gunman shook his head in an attempt to indicate it was not
his. PTI SVS
