Yemen agrees on loan treaties to finance electric, agricultural
SANA'A, June 16 (Saba)- The government agreed in its cabinet's
Tuesday meeting on two loan treaties for funding electric and
agricultural projects.
The two treaties signed between the government of Yemen and Islamic
Development Bank on June, 10, 2009, are for funding rural areas
electric project and rural agricultural development project in Abyan
governorate.
The first treaty, assigned to rural areas electric project, worth $
23 million.The project, as a whole, worth $ 117 million. It aims at
supplying electricity to nearly 200,000 clients in rural areas in
addition to help government's efforts to increase electricity
coverage of the national electric network.
While the second treaty assigned for funding agricultural
development project in Abyan worth $ 10,4 million. The project aims
at improving and developing water resources and creating
agricultural areas to increase agricultural production.
The project includes constructing a dam, three water barriers,
irrigation network and digging three wells, in addition to smaller
funding programs to create productive farms and generating income
activities.
The council directed concerned ministers to complete legal measures
to approve the two treaties.
On the other hand, the meeting approved Prime Minister's decision
over amending some clauses of item (78) of tenders' bylaw. The
amendment stipulated on defining financial authorizations to local
tenders committee in Sana'a and governorates.
According the new amendments, the new authorizations will be YR 250
million instead of 150 million while the financial authorizations to
tenders committees become YR 50 million instead of 15 million.
