SEVENTH BAKU INT`L CONFERENCE OF OMBUDSPERSONS KICKS OFF
The 7th Baku International Conference of Ombudspersons entitled “Bioethics, Human Rights and New Technologies: Legal and Ethical Aspects of Reproductive Health and Family Planning” started here on Wednesday.
The event organized on the initiative of the Office of Azerbaijan`s Human Rights Commissioner was devoted to the 60th anniversary of the Council of Europe.
The conference brings together ombudspersons of foreign countries, human rights experts, parliamentarians, officials and NGOs representatives.
Speaking at the conference, Azerbaijan`s Ombudswoman Elmira Suleymanova said National Action Plan for Protection of Human Rights was approved in her country, adding the document has opened “great opportunities for the effective protection and promotion of human rights”.
Suleymanova also briefed the participants on legal and ethical aspects of reproductive health and family planning.
United Nations Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Bruno Pueza praised the work done in the country to protect human rights.
The event participants were also informed of the UNESCO Bioethics Program.
