Yemen, UNHCR discuss refugees situation

ADEN, June 17 (Saba)- General Secretary of Aden Local Council
Abdul-Kareen al-Shaief discussed on Wednesday with Director of the
Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
Laila Naseif a number of issues related to refugees' situation in
the camps of Aden and ways of improving their living conditions.

The talks dealt with measures to inaugurate Refugees Registration
Center in the al-Basatin area camp and requirements of the center to
perform its work properly.

On the other hand, al-Shaief discussed with expert of combating
smuggling in the International Organization for Migration (IOM)
aspects of cooperation between IOM and Aden province. They also
discussed formation of a common set of relevant authorities to
combat refugees smuggling.

Al-Shaief welcomed the formation of this group which will contribute
to the reduction of smuggling operations in Aden province, pointing
to the problems faced because of the continuous exodus of refugees
to Yemen from the Horn of Africa.
