Foreign Minister holds meeting with EU Special Representative

Manama, Aug. 21 (BNA): Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met Luigi Di Maio, the European Union Special Representative (EUSR) for the Gulf Region, who is on a visit to the kingdom.
 
The minister welcomed EUSR for the Gulf Region, and congratulated him on his appointment to his post, lauding the steadily-growing friendship relations between Bahrain and the EU countries, which are based on mutual respect and constructive cooperation. He also affirmed the kingdom’s interest in broadening its cooperation with the EU across various fields to serve common interests.
 
Luigi Di Maio expressed delight at visiting the kingdom, noting that the visit provides an opportunity to exchange opinions on ways to enhance joint cooperation.
 
He also commended the good outcomes of the ongoing Bahrain-EU cooperation relations in all fields, stressing the EU’s keenness to develop its ties with the kingdom and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to achieve joint interests. He wished Bahrain continued progress and prosperity.
 
The Foreign Minister and the EU Special Representative discussed ways to enhance the Bahrain-EU cooperation in the political, economic, trade and development fields, in addition to means to increase bilateral trade volume and fields of joint coordination at international gatherings.
 
The meeting also focused on ways to develop EU-GCC cooperation in various fields of mutual interest, in addition to the ongoing preparations to hold the GCC-EU meeting in Muscat, Oman, in October.
 
The two sides also discussed the latest regional political and security developments and challenges, as well as their impact on the region’s security, stability and prosperity. They also discussed the ongoing regional and international efforts to safeguard global peace and stability.
