/United Nations/ US Department of State Regional Spokesperson to QNA: Qatar Plays Leading Mediation Role in Thorny Regional, International Issues

New York, September 19 (QNA) - US Department of State Regional Spokesperson Samuel Warburg emphasized the importance of bilateral relations between the United States and the State of Qatar, noting that the State of Qatar plays a leadership role on the international arena and leads fruitful mediation efforts in many thorny regional and international issues.
In an exclusive interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), Warburg said that the Qatari-US relations are strong, historic and very important, as they were built on many fields, including defense and security coordination, as well as cultural, educational and economic cooperation. He added that they are looking forward to hearing more from HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani this week through his speech at General Debate of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Department of State Regional Spokesperson stressed the strength and durability of the strategic relations between Qatar and his country, given that they have a common vision regarding many challenges in the region and the world, pointing out the significance of the US choosing Qatar as a major non-NATO ally, as this classification, announced by the US President last year, is a reflection of this distinguished partnership and contributes to advancing relations between the two countries to broader horizons.
He pointed out that the close coordination and cooperation between the two countries goes beyond the bilateral dimension to include various outstanding and urgent issues in the region and the world, which are particularly related to regional security, climate change, economic files, and others, pointing also to the distinguished relations between the Qatari and American peoples and the strong personal ties between individuals from both countries.
Regarding the most prominent issues on the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly, Warburg explained that the US administration has several main priorities, as it seeks to address issues related to the reality of the United Nations, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund, and everything that would make these international institutions more effective and transparent to achieve the common goals of all countries.
He added that the United States is focusing on strengthening its partnerships with various countries, especially with the State of Qatar, in many areas of cooperation to benefit the future of the two countries and their common interests. (QNA)
