20 TONNES GARBAGE FISHED OUT FROM RIVERS DAILY IN KUALA LUMPUR

SHAH ALAM, June 20 (Bernama) -- City folks continue to dump their garbage in
rivers a reflected n a report by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (City Hall) of its
garbage collection.

Deputy Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Noriah Kasnon said that
based on the City Hall report, 20 tonnes of garbage were fished out from rivers
daily in the city.

The garbage collected included plastic bottles, bags and mattresses, she
said at the opening of the third annual general meeting of the Water Association
of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya here Saturday.

The text of her speech was read by the ministry's Deputy Secretary-General
(Policy) Nor Azmal Mohd Nazir.

Noriah also said she was happy with the various innovations in the water
industry, like gadgets to save water usage, as it could help to reduce water
bill.
