QatarDebate Organizes 6th Oasis of Dialogue in Washington

 
Doha, October 04 (QNA) - The QatarDebate Center organized the 6th edition of the Oasis of Dialogue, under the theme, "Bridging the Gap: Muslim Communities and Their Governments." in Washington DC, the United States. 
    The Dialogue, sponsored by the strategic partner the Islam and Muslims Initiative, saw the participation of a line-up of experts, researchers, academics, and activists interested in all aspects of contemporary life.
    A statement issued by the QatarDebate on Wednesday stated that the Dialogue concluded the importance of bridging the gap between the Muslim societies' public opinion on the one hand, and their governments' actions on the other, in addition to the hopes of Muslim and Arab communities to achieve democracy, to acknowledge difference and diversity, in addition to better understand reactions to Islamophobic actions. It also emphasized the need to demand the rights of Muslims and to be aware of political trends.
    The event was moderated by QatarDebate’s ambassador in the US,
Qatar University faculty member Mohammed Al Marri.
aims to open horizons of knowledge and bridge the gap between Muslim societies and their relationship with governments through in-depth conversation about issues. That concerns the world.
    Oasis of Dialogue also addressed the political representation of Muslims in the US and the ways Muslims can counter Islamophobia using their votes in elections at all levels, in addition to local representation in different sectors and at the state, Congress, and Senate levels.
    Speakers also reviewed Muslim voting history and statistics when it comes to voting Democrat or Republican, discussing issues of political representation for Muslims.
    The Dialogue further discussed Islamic political figures' responsibility in challenging Islamophobia and promoting societal integration and inclusivity, shedding light on Anti-Muslim discrimination in Western societies, and the reasons for the discrepancy between Muslim public opinion and aspirations on the one hand, and their governments' policies on the other.
